Money, Savings, and Upcoming Festivities

Another mundane post about the ramblings of my life.

I've been keeping a budget (oh, how boring, commence eye-roll now) to see where my money is going. It's been eye opening. This week, I've managed to save a lot more money then normal. Why? Probably because I'm seeing where it's all going so I'm not quite as quick to spend it on something I don't need. Yes I am still spending a bit on food. $45 actually, this week alone. No, that is not the groceries. That is just other food. I also spent a bit on magazines but it was my treat to myself this week, with the whole coming down with some terrible bug which made my body function ridiculously disgusting. Don't worry though, I do believe in too much information so you don't get to know the grisly details. I bet a couple of my friends reading this are going "so why did we get to know?'. Because I love my friends. Evil me pops out.

So, saving money. Not the most fun topic in the world. Would have had more in a certain savings account for rego if I hadn't gone out last weekend. But it was fun. Right now, my money is being looked at, how much fun will it be to buy this certain thing? How long will the fun feeling last? Is it necessary in three years time? If I can provide legit reasons for those three questions, PLUS I've thought about it for a couple days, normally I'll go back and get it. Sometimes I'll make myself hold out. For example, I really want the fourth season of Sanctuary. However, knowing it's the last season that there is, I'm holding out. It's not because I don't want it enough, no, trust me, I WANT IT! It's because I know I have more pressing items coming up, and if I can wait till Christmas or the New Year to gift it to myself, I'll enjoy it more. Plus, I'll be able to pay my rego, and get my open license. Right now, those are the two most important things. Sure, I can wait till April to actually get my opens (that's when my P's expire) but I would rather have my opens. Not have to worry about doing 5kms over the speed limit and wondering where the cops are. Being able to sit on the decent highways which have the lovely speed limit of 110kmph. Plus rego.... I need rego. No rego, no driving. No driving, no way to get around and no spontaneous trips to places. I need my car.

So the budget is putting everything into perspective for me. So I'm comparing my two budgets, one from last fortnight, and the one for this fortnight. It doesn't seem like I've spent more, but I have definitely saved more. Last fortnight I wasn't conscious about tracking everything. This fortnight, everything is going into it. Even that $2 drink I got from work. In terms of saving, I've save $50 more for my car then last fortnight. I also managed to actually save something for me, compared to last fortnight. I feel proud of myself. Damn proud.

Also a update about weight-loss because I know people are curious... I'm eating slightly better, it did go off the rails due to my sickness, yes my gym membership has started back up again, no I haven't been, again due to being bed-ridden. Will be going back next week, bit excited. I have lost 2 kilos being sick though. Not a great way to loose weight, I know, but I'm also not complaining.

Also, for those of us in the Southern Hemisphere, while everybody up top is going "Yay, Halloween, so exciting," or "Blessed Samhain" would like to point out that Beltane is coming up for us down-under people. If you follow the Northern Hemisphere, that's great, have fun celebrating Samhain. However, I will be celebrating Beltane, so there will be some upcoming posts on what Beltane is, some traditional ideas to celebrate it, and how I will celebrate it.

Blessings,

Rosa.
