Hello everyone!
How did you find your switch off Sunday. Did you participate? Did you struggle with it? What did you do as your activities?
Mine was productive and different. I didn't have any communication on the phone or computer. I went to work and helped out for a couple of hours and then got some movies to watched. Yes, I watched movies and a tv show on my switch off Sunday and it was nice. I know it's meant to be a break from technology but I felt like it was beneficial for me to watch tv. I had a nice time relaxing.
Let me know how it went in the comments :)

Why I'm Going Back To Switch Off Sundays
Switch Off Sundays.
Something that I used to make time for, which was sort of a guilty pleasure. I didn't watch movies or tv shows, I did not play on the computer, I stopped checking Facebook and emails and I rarely texted or called anyone. It was bliss. Pure bliss. Then I started to feel guilty. I would come back to Facebook and my phone on Monday and have all these messages from people. Anyone in this world who has Facebook and a mobile knows the hassle you get from people when you don't respond.
What did I do instead of spending my whole day online? I read books. I made jewellery. I crafted cards. I gave myself some solo time to have a D&M with my inner person. Discovered things I never knew about myself. Ultimately, improved my mental and physical well-being.
It was lovely. Then, like most things, I sort of just stopped doing SOS. There was no decision to stop... it just happened. I started consuming so much more media and constantly talking to people. While I love my friends and chatting to them... I also know I need "me" time. Is that selfish? Some people would say yes. Am I a better person when I take time for myself? Yes, yes, yes! Without a doubt. When I stopped doing SOS, I drifted back into bad habits, and then I started to feel down and not really myself and couldn't figure out what had happened. I had lost that special connection with myself that is vital to my well-being.
So in honour of looking after myself and making changes that will benefit me, I am re-instating Switch Off Sundays.
It means (to me):
What I will do instead:
It's also making a point of disconnecting from the world. I know it won't stop turning if I take some time out from Facebook. I know my friends won't stop talking to me because I take one day off from speaking to them. (If they do, than not a big loss of a "friend", is it?) I feel that because everyone is so switched on all the time, nobody really knows themselves anymore. This practice for me, is about taking back my own personal power and discovering who I am! I can't wait to start.
I originally got the idea from Leonie Dawson who is a wonderful, incredible, hippy/business/mamma/gigglesnorting lady! This is her masterlist which I always refer back to when I get a bit stuck for ideas.
Anyone interested in joining me on a mini-mind-holiday?
If you do it, let me know how it goes in the comments!

It means (to me):
- No TV (tv shows, movies, etc)
- No Facebook, emails, social media sites, blogs, computer games, absolutely nothing to do with a computer.
- No phone. The only exception will be a if a family member rang up. Since most of mine text or ring on a different day, it shouldn't be a issue.
What I will do instead:
- Craft - bead, card-making, drawing, painting, whatever I feel drawn to.
- Read.
- Listen to music (I will use my iPod for this, however it won't be connected to the internet. It will just play music from my iTunes library.
- Practice my spiritual path.
- Relax.
- Spend time outside with nature.
- Manicures/ pedicures.
- Get a massage.
- Meditation
- Yoga

Sold my First Piece of Handmade Jewellery!
As the title of this post states, I have officially sold my first piece of handcrafted jewellery! I am so proud of myself. The item that was sold was my pearl and crystal bracelet..... for someone to wear to church! I hadn't even considered church as one of the places one could wear this bracelet. A wedding yes... dinner, drinks, work, anywhere actually... but church certainly hadn't entered my mind. Have I made a profit? A small one yes, but I was more focused on the idea of actually starting to sell my jewellery. I now realised it has paid off. Watch out world, here I come!!

New Step Forward
I decided to start selling my jewellery. So far, it has just been on Ebay. I actually haven't sold anything yet but at least I've put them up online. Yes it's only two things. I don't care so much about how little I have up there. It's the fact that i was brave enough to take this step. I love making jewellery. I love seeing the people I love wear my jewellery. I love how jewellery makes a person feel. So with all this in mind, I decided to go ahead and try to start up my own business. So far, it will only be selling through eBay. I could try Etsy as well. I'm just proud of myself to have taken this step forward!
Also, as a side not, this blog will primarily be about my jewellery and cards. The ones I've made and if I'm selling them.

Blocking People
Have you ever "blocked" someone on Facebook? Not just delete them from your friends list, but tell Facebook, that no, this person can not see what I'm doing through our mutual friends and I don't want to see what they're doing either. I've blocked two people in the last week. It wasn't like these friendships had recently ended either and there was some chance of reconciliation. No, these relationships had been buried for a good few months now. But I still kept seeing the people pop up. Out of something (anger, betrayal, negativity, I'm not sure) that I was feeling, I would hover over the little thing to make it bigger and see what this person was writing. Then, the thoughts would start up. All these thoughts that I had already dealt with. It's frustrating, to repeat the same thing over and over. So many smart people would say, "well, don't look at it." Ah huh, yep, hearing you. Except, well... I'm not that good at it. So I decided to block them. I can't see anything they write, that mutual friends might comment on. I can't see anything that they might post in the same Facebook page as me. And they can't see me. It's a wonderful, liberating feeling. That's the thing about Facebook... you might delete someone, but that person can still pop up, often on the worse of days. It might seem childish to you, but to me, it's keeping my sanity intact.
Tomorrow will be my first post of a series that I'm trialling.... tune in for it.

Journal Idea
I was going to write a blog post about the shittyness of one person that I have been experiencing lately. I decided not to. Not that I haven't ranted about it. I just decided to type it up on the computer, and keep it under a locked password folder that only I can access. I ranted and rage on that piece of paper, and then saved it. I've always found writing down my frustrations to be a good experience for my soul. I can get them out of my head, and then once I've written it, my frustration has disappeared and I don't feel so shitty inside. There's just particular things that this person says or does, that makes me feel like they don't have a heart beating inside them. It's a terrible judgement yes, but well earned. I'm sure I'm not the only one who felt surprised by what was said. However, it shall not be repeated here. This is going to be a happy post. Imbolc is today. One of the eight sabbats. Tomorrow there shall be a post about Imbolc. For now, this is all you get, and I'm off to have a lovely night celebrating.

Crazy Wild Donkey Rides and How I Get Things Done
*Disclosure* There could be material within this post that some people might find offensive. Try to remember, this is not about you, this is about my personal feelings and it is an outlet for me. If you do find something offensive.... maybe reflect on why it offends you.
I'm struggling to write my essay. It's not because it's hard, or that I don't know the content. It just seems like I'm in a mental block stage, because I'm so near the end of Trimester 3. It's like my brain and body know that at 12:00am Saturday, I don't have to worry about any more uni work for about a month. So brain is gearing up early to go on holiday. Now most people I know, say "Why do you leave it to the last minute?" or "If you had started earlier, you wouldn't be worried about it now." or "Well I've been working on mine for aggesss so it's already done." (insert smug face afterwards here)
I'm going to let you on in a secret. I tried the whole planning out my essay, do it a month before it's due, get everything organised, etc. While there is nothing wrong with that for some people... guessed what happened to me. I failed. I failed that assignment so spectacularly that I sunk into my depression for a few days. Nothing my friends or family said helped me. I just cried for about 3 days over it. The next assignment came around, I did it 3 days before it was due, I got a Credit.
So obviously, that whole doing it early method does not work for ME!. Me personally. I'm well aware that that is how other people need to complete my assignments. However, it does not work for me.
My way of doing assignments? Sure, I collate all my materials early, and skim through them and things like that... but the actual process of writing.. happens in the last couple of days before it's due.
I was thinking (dreaming) last night... and my mind came up with this fabulous thing (as our subconscious likes to do)
It goes: "Rosa, who do you know, that has given you advice about Wild Donkey Rides and how she gets things done? How she has these fabulous ideas, and then only needs to work on them for a few days, and then releases them into the universe?"
I'm like...thinking...thinking..thinking... brain epiphany "Goddess Leonie!!!"
Little voice: "Exactly. You marvel at how she does things, but deep down, you know that is how YOU perform some of your tasks. Now if Leonie does it, why is there something wrong with the way You do it?"
Me: "Well... guess there's nothing wrong with it."
L.V: "So why are you so upset about it?"
Me: "Because my friends criticise me about it."
L.V: "Not all of them. Some of them simply accept that's how you create things and don't particularly care."
Me: "Yea, but what about the ones who do?"
L.V: "They will come around eventually... and if they don't.... are they meant to be your friends?"
Now this discussion has remained with me all day. My horrible feeling of guilt has been with me all day, because sometimes I do better then my friends. But really, it's how I operate. I don't need to feel guilty over it. I don't need to have negative responses about something that is part of me. It's part of who I am. How I am. How I achieve things.
While writing this, it's like all my guilt has suddenly disappeared. I know what I need to do for my assignment and my brain fog is lifting. Sometimes all it takes is writing down what is currently occupying my head space. Clearly, this seriously was an issue dancing around my head.
Thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings.
Have a fabulous day, and talk soon.

Slut-Shaming
It seems "slut-shaming" has become a hot topic around the media lately. Even Dr. Phil has done a segment on it. However, while Dr. Phil seems to be leaning towards the theory of "women should cover up on", Laci Green (my new inspiration in life) has been offering up her opinions on it. The same as Jenna Marbles. Now I love Jenna Marbles as well.... but really girl. That video.. not cool. You essentially just dragged down your entire race in one freaking video. Seriously. Then here's Laci in the other corner of the boxing ring, propping us back up again.
Now, I'm not going to pretend I haven't done my fair amount of slut shaming. I have. I'm human. I've made mistakes. But as I've been getting older (hopefully wiser) I've realised, that if I had the perfect body that society loves, shit, I'd be wearing short dresses, skirts, midriff tops, everything. I'd be relishing in the fact that I could wear them. So, good on you girls with the hot bodies who can look fabulous in those clothes.
Also... mid-riff tops... I'm pretty sure that back in the 90's, they were all the fashion rage. So why are people opposed to them now? Because they're paired with a shorts or a skirt? Man, get over it. It's clothing.
Even if you're slut-shaming girls because, hey, they're sleeping with people... how is that any of your business? Do you even know the person you're talking about? Or is she a stranger that has some article of clothing on you don't agree about? If you don't know her, don't judge her. If you do know her... DON"T FREAKING JUDGE HER!
Also, why don't men get slut-shamed? They get high-fives for sleeping with 3 girls in one night... girl sleeps with 3 boys in one night... slut-shamed. No high-fives for her. Double standards in society, prominent right here.
Judging girls shouldn't be just about slut-shaming. It's about everything. Don't judge each other.
So this is another one of my rants about society and what I find annoying.
Here are the links to the Dr. Phil episode, Laci Green and Jenna Marbles.

100 Things To Do in 2013
As most of you know, I love Leonie Dawson. I love all her stuff, I think she’s a wonderful lady and I admire her so much. Due to this love I have for her, I have bought her Create Your Incredible Year work planner, last year and this year. It had so much amazing stuff in it, but perhaps the hardest one is the “100 Things To Do in 2013.” It sounds easy. It really does. But after I wrote down about 15 things, I was stumped. Ramblings
My ramblings will be filling today's post. Don't say you haven't been warned.
I can't seem to focus on my assignment so I decided to write a post. Might as well right? Do something, other then just sitting here on the computer bumming around on Facebook. Maybe if I write something I'll be able to focus on my assignment later tonight. So many thoughts going around my head, and so many feelings that I want to distract myself from. I ended up running away to Coffs. Couldn't deal with things in Armidale. Had to go home to my adoptive family. Frankly, sometimes they feel more like my real family than anything else.
So basically instead of doing my assignment (and writing this blog post) I'm looking at pretty pictures, or watching tv series, or watching a movie, or flicking through my magazines, or playing cards on the computer. Basically anything that can distract me, I am doing. I really shouldn't be. The assignment is due on Friday and I have 2 due after it next week. Blergh. Hate uni. It's almost finished, hooray.
That's enough for now.
Bye,

New Tactic for my Weight.
BodyTrim. I bet many people go, “Oh, not another diet tactic.” Well, yes, yes it is another diet. However, it also teaches you healthy eating habits, portion control, and what is better to eat for your body.
It is a high-protein, low-carb, low-fat, no- sugar diet. I’m well aware that this is a diet. I know that if I stop following it and return to my old habits, that the weight I will lose will come back on. The purpose of doing BodyTrim for me, is to lose weight, develop healthy habits that I can then transfer to my new lifestyle of eating better for myself. I want to be healthy, I want to feel healthy and I want to look hot. Stop-heads-and-turn-to-gawk hot. People-worshipping-me hot. (Ok, so maybe not quite that far.)
The thing with BodyTrim, is that my adoptive family is on it. Told dad when I came home that I wanted to go on it and see what happens while I was home. I lost 3 kilos in 3 days. I know. Without exercise. Now, I know that I won’t lose 7 kilos every week. I’m not that stupid. I know that I’ll lose a few kilos in the first week and then maybe 1 kilo every week if I’m lucky. I also know, that when I come off BodyTrim, I won’t be able to go back to eating pizza, KFC, Macca’s, etc, every day again. I’m realistic enough to know that I’ll have to reintroduce carbs and fruit back in slowly to my diet afterwards. The good thing about BodyTrim… it also has a maintenance plan to follow after you get to your goal weight.
It is also encouraged that while on the plan, you do 30 mins of walking, and aim to do 10, 000 steps a day. *Note to self: Buy pedometer.* That is the only exercise that is required. Easy enough for me. I have a gym membership that I fork out $30 a fortnight for… better start using it properly. Especially because 30 mins of walking is really not that hard. Put some good music on, throw my towel over the timer (I hate watching the timer) and I get into it. I suppose if I am having a really good day, I could also throw in a bike ride while I’m at the gym. Yes, I know, the cross-trainer and the rowing machine are really great for burning calories but I hate those things with a passion. If I’m going to exercise, I’m going to make sure I enjoy exercising, not hating the idea of it.
So here we go again. On the losing weight train. Hopefully it stops at the right destination. I’m actually a little bit excited about it. I can’t weight to go shopping. (see what I did there?).
Here’s to beginning new goals before the new year.
Butterflie kisses and rainbow hugs,
Rosalinda.

Family Over at Christmas Time
This topic is an interesting one, an can also be quite a painful topic to talk about….our family and their behaviours at Christmas time. Generally, we all expect Christmas to be a happy, perfect day, with no family arguments or any sort of unhappiness. However, a lot of that doesn’t happen. Most of the time, Christmas is an happy occasion. When my mother, her partner and I celebrated it the week before (only time I could see her), we had a happy Christmas. There was lots of love, happiness with our presents, enjoying good food and the company and it was a lovely time.
Skip to the proper Christmas Day one week later, and while it was mostly happy for everyone else in my family, it was a bit of shit day for me. It was a small Christmas, with my dad, his partner, nan and pop, my great-grandmother and her partner. Now my family is/has always been concerned with my weight, mainly because of the health implications that run in my genes, diabetes, heart problems, those type of things. My adoptive family, is also a little concerned because of the mental affect it has on me and how easily I slip back into my previous eating disorders. So, suffice to say, very used to getting commented on by my family. It is generally caring, done in that way that you know they will help you if you need it. My great-grandmother on the other hand, is a complete and utter bitch about it. (Just so you know how pissed I am with her right now, I had to substitute bitch in for the c word instead. Oh yeah. Mega annoyed). We were all sitting there, before Christmas lunch was ready, when she loudly said, “Oh I see you’ve put on weight.” I just looked at her. Yes I’ve put on weight. I know that, she knows that, my whole family knows that. But I haven’t put on any more weight since I last saw her. My weight is staying at this place and isn’t rising anymore (thank fuck.) Yes, I guess some would say “She’s just trying to be helpful.” Except she wasn’t. She had that tone in her voice that really rude people use to make you feel inadequate in their eyes. Guess what Great-Grandma? It bloody well worked extremely well. I felt tiny and useless, and like I hadn’t accomplished anything in my life.
I just didn’t know how to react to it. I couldn’t react without making a spectacle… and I love my Nan way too much to ruin Christmas for her…. So basically I let it go and didn’t speak to her for the rest of the day. I ignored her questions and wasn’t exactly pleasant. My day felt ruined. I tried remembering that it’s how you dictate the rest of the day as to how it goes but I just couldn’t let this go. I kept replaying the memory in my head. Even now, as I type this, it replays in my head.
Maybe I’m being over-sensitive. I dunno. But hey guess what….. It’s time for me to start eating healthy again. I’m sure some people would be like “fuck, why would you bother after that?” but see, what she didn’t know… is that I already was planning to lose weight. I’m going to do BodyTrim for 1 month and see what happens. After that month, I’ll probably keep going, but giving my mind that end point helps. I was already planning to do this before the new year, but after Christmas had finished. I just wanted Christmas off to enjoy eating some yummy Christmas foods. Turns out, I wasn’t allowed to do that after all.
So yes, BodyTrim the new plan of attack. I shall write more about that in an upcoming post.
Hope everyone had a much more joyous Christmas then me, and if you didn’t, I spose there’s always next year.
xoxo

Money, Savings, and Upcoming Festivities
Another mundane post about the ramblings of my life.
I've been keeping a budget (oh, how boring, commence eye-roll now) to see where my money is going. It's been eye opening. This week, I've managed to save a lot more money then normal. Why? Probably because I'm seeing where it's all going so I'm not quite as quick to spend it on something I don't need. Yes I am still spending a bit on food. $45 actually, this week alone. No, that is not the groceries. That is just other food. I also spent a bit on magazines but it was my treat to myself this week, with the whole coming down with some terrible bug which made my body function ridiculously disgusting. Don't worry though, I do believe in too much information so you don't get to know the grisly details. I bet a couple of my friends reading this are going "so why did we get to know?'. Because I love my friends. Evil me pops out.
So, saving money. Not the most fun topic in the world. Would have had more in a certain savings account for rego if I hadn't gone out last weekend. But it was fun. Right now, my money is being looked at, how much fun will it be to buy this certain thing? How long will the fun feeling last? Is it necessary in three years time? If I can provide legit reasons for those three questions, PLUS I've thought about it for a couple days, normally I'll go back and get it. Sometimes I'll make myself hold out. For example, I really want the fourth season of Sanctuary. However, knowing it's the last season that there is, I'm holding out. It's not because I don't want it enough, no, trust me, I WANT IT! It's because I know I have more pressing items coming up, and if I can wait till Christmas or the New Year to gift it to myself, I'll enjoy it more. Plus, I'll be able to pay my rego, and get my open license. Right now, those are the two most important things. Sure, I can wait till April to actually get my opens (that's when my P's expire) but I would rather have my opens. Not have to worry about doing 5kms over the speed limit and wondering where the cops are. Being able to sit on the decent highways which have the lovely speed limit of 110kmph. Plus rego.... I need rego. No rego, no driving. No driving, no way to get around and no spontaneous trips to places. I need my car.
So the budget is putting everything into perspective for me. So I'm comparing my two budgets, one from last fortnight, and the one for this fortnight. It doesn't seem like I've spent more, but I have definitely saved more. Last fortnight I wasn't conscious about tracking everything. This fortnight, everything is going into it. Even that $2 drink I got from work. In terms of saving, I've save $50 more for my car then last fortnight. I also managed to actually save something for me, compared to last fortnight. I feel proud of myself. Damn proud.
Also a update about weight-loss because I know people are curious... I'm eating slightly better, it did go off the rails due to my sickness, yes my gym membership has started back up again, no I haven't been, again due to being bed-ridden. Will be going back next week, bit excited. I have lost 2 kilos being sick though. Not a great way to loose weight, I know, but I'm also not complaining.
Also, for those of us in the Southern Hemisphere, while everybody up top is going "Yay, Halloween, so exciting," or "Blessed Samhain" would like to point out that Beltane is coming up for us down-under people. If you follow the Northern Hemisphere, that's great, have fun celebrating Samhain. However, I will be celebrating Beltane, so there will be some upcoming posts on what Beltane is, some traditional ideas to celebrate it, and how I will celebrate it.
Blessings,
Rosa.

Blessings,
Rosa.

Ostara Altar
Hi there.
This is what my altar is currently looking like.
As this altar is focusing on celebrating Ostara, the colours are reflecting spring in all her glory.
Green for the main altar cloth to symbolise the green grass we see at the start of spring.
Purple for the secondary altar cloth as it reflects the flowers shooting up.
A large pink candle at the back in the center to show the prettiness in spring.
I have been lighting this candle every day since I prepared the altar.
Today I also added a silver candle to the left, and a gold candle to the right, to symbolise the goddess moon and god sun. Some days I’ve just had the pink candle, other days I’ve also had two white tapered candles burning. Just depends on what I feel called to each day.
You can also see that I have a little piece of white cloth at the very front of the altar. After I’ve finished lighting the candles, I like to choose a rune for my morning reading. Today’s was “Teiwaz”. It focuses on leadership, balance, logical thought and self-sacrifice. Not so much on the leadership or self-sacrifice today, but there was a bit of balance that I felt. Namely, the balance between spending time with a friend and the balance of home time. I needed a bit of both today.
Magical Blessings,
Rosalinda.

Announcement of my New Card-Making Blog
I have a new blog.
I will be using this current one for exploration within my witchy ways, and the new one will be dedicated to my cards, as I am creating more, and would like to put the idea out on the web that I am making lovely cards, and hey people, you really want to buy them off me.
I feel like a change and I'm sick of putting my personal life on my blog. While I realise that exploring my spiritual path is still personal, I feel the most comfortable for it being on the internet. Things like romances, weight loss, friendships, etc, I do not feel so comfortable about. Therefore, ellesmeralover will continue to be here, focusing on my path through this wonderful magical world, and creativeenchantedcards will be primarily focused on my cards.
Blessings to all,
Rosalinda.

Point to keep me on track
As motivation to keep myself on track this time around (and actually succeed) I am going to put $5 away in my own personal account every day that I do not buy junk food. Why $5? Please refer to this post here. So that will be a saving of $35 a week. Think what I could do with that... namely buy pretty clothes once I start losing the weight. For clarification, junk food is: Hungry Jacks, McDonalds, KFC, Red Rooster, Eagle Boys, Dominos, and yes even Subway. Those are now on my no go list. The one day where it won't apply is on Saturday, which has been nominated as pizza day (it being the day I work for 8 hours at the pizza shop and is the yummiest thing ever halfway through my shift). I am not including sushi in this list.... it has so many benefits to it and no processed junk that it would be ridiculous to add it in. So sushi is ok. Pizza is ok only on Saturday. For every day I don't succumb to eating junk food, $5 will go into my savings account!
I am also planning to weigh myself every week, and measure myself every month! Bring on the transformation.
Rosalinda, xoxo.

Healthy Eating vs Take Out
I bought food today. I sat down yesterday, worked out a meal plan, then bought the ingredients. It cost me $116. I was amazed. Most of it was admittedly fresh food which is a good thing, a few things that I won't have to buy for a while because it is part of the pantry now, and the rest was meat. Some of that meat will also last a few weeks, being only one person it's not like I'm cooking for an army.
I wanted to compare it to the fact that take away is so much cheaper. For example, Hungry jacks offers a complete meal for $5. So say you had that meal or something similar at the same price.... for seven nights worth, it's about $35. Compare that to my $116 for one week. Which is insane. I can spend less money and eat more crap or spend more money and eat healthy. Thanks government. When it's hard enough to keep afloat in these times, some people would be forced to make this choice. "Cheaper to feed my kids even if it's junk food.....quicker, cheaper, easier, yes please." Even in my position (uni student) this choice is sometimes easier to make. Also, the preparation that is involved in it.... many people would rather consider it.
However, I did do my meal plan and I made my first meal. Asian pork skewers and Asian greens with basmati rice. It was brilliant. Soo yummy. Worth the money I spent on ingredients. Plus I don't feel sluggish or really heavy... or sick like I normally get from junk food.
Based on this I am actually planning to stick with this new plan. Choose seven healthy dinner meals from my HFG magazine, base lunches and breakfast on healthy foods and see how the weight loss/getting healthy eventuates.
Also based on tonight's success, I have decided to compile my own recipe book. It will be based in a folder with the plastic sleeves with dividers. I will type up the recipes and put them in there. Also because there are certain ingredients that I don't like, (red onion on the skewer... no go) I will simply take them out of the recipe to suit me.
My adventure into the healthy cooking has begun and looks like it will be fun :)

First Imbolc Ritual
Oh herro...
So almost a month has passed since I last wrote on here. Mhmm. Slacker. Truth is... been insanely busy...
I have been on prac since the 16th July, (which is almost over - sadness) as well as trying to complete uni assignments. Now prac teaching is full on. We are expected to plan lessons, teach the lessons, do lunchtime duty, do sport and in reality become a full-time teacher for 4 weeks. While we are doing this, we are also expected (by the university) to keep up with our unit work and do assignments. Plus, for those of us who have jobs, we are expected to come back for shifts.
Now after doing this continuous run around for 4 weeks..... is it any wonder us teaching students want a break from it all? Lucky me, I am getting a great break afterwards... I will be spending 1 week back in my lovely little unit and then I will be jetting off to Bali!!!
I am just a bit excited, and can not wait. Of course, I wish all my dear friends were coming with me however, that does not seem like it will happen. I've invited them all and said the cliche phrase "Just come in my suitcase!" Alas, to no avail. I will just be traveling with my family. Which will still be lovely anyway.
What else has happened in my hectic life? I celebrated my first festival. It wasn't a huge celebration, ritual, dancing around an outside fire deal, just more of a change the altar cloths-put the coloured candles up - use the incense associated with the festival - and just spend some time reflecting on what this festival is about. The festival was Imbolc and was on the 2nd of August this year. Now because I am staying with my grandparents through the week for prac, I did not perform it on the 2nd of August. I did, however, wait a couple of extra days and did it on the following weekend. Still felt right to me, and still felt like honouring the festival in all it's glory.
Imbolc is celebrating the beginnings of spring. It is located between the winter and spring equinoxes. Traditionally, it is around the time of lambing season. Many lambs have popped up on my grandparents property (with a few early ones). It also known as one of the 'fire' festivals.
In honour of this, I had white and red altar cloths, two green candles signifying the birth of spring, one floating candle in water and myrrh incense. The floating candle was to add to the fire and water elements, and the incense is to represent the air element. I did not have any earth representation as I felt the green candles were enough to illustrate what I was honouring. Myrrh, cinnamon and jasmine are traditionally associated with Imbolc. I felt that Myrrh was the best in this case. I did not ask for anything out of this ritual. This was just a basic one, as I felt it was time for me to celebrate one of the festivals and to keep my focus on Mother Earth's movements.
*Slight disclaimer* This is what worked for me. This is how I enjoyed my ritual. You might find something different that works for you. The point is to explore your own path and to not feel that you're doing it wrong.*
